(be)coming together in study

Community Study

Community Study is an ongoing constellation of study groups, immersions, community learning spaces, and reading groups centered around BIPOC being and (be)coming together in study. We believe that learning and exploring together is a joyous and generative form of community (and community building) that facilitates curiosity, intimacy, and care–all of which are deeply needed now.

We Back!

Community Study returns after a 2-year break with an invitation and call to deeply engage with Palestinian life and liberation.

For those who haven’t joined us before, we are a constellation of study groups, immersions, and community learning spaces centered around BIPOC being and (be)coming together in study. We believe that learning and exploring together is a joyous and generative form of community (and community building) that facilitates curiosity, intimacy, and care–all of which are deeply needed now.

Histories & Futures of Palestinian Liberation

We back! Community Study returns after a 2-year break with an invitation and call to deeply engage with Palestinian life and liberation.

In this study, we acknowledge the grief and anger that wells up in the face of relentless genocide in Gaza, and seek to contest the dominant, one-dimensional, liberal framings of Palestine by immersing ourselves in Palestinian voices, history, and struggles for liberation.

Beginning with Rashid Khalidi’s foundational book, The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine, we’ll come together to activate a wide range of articles, films, and talks—both older and recent—that locate Palestinian resistance in relation to colonialism and imperialism, Zionism and anti-Semitism, Indigenous sovereignty, student activism, cultural heritage preservation, and more.

The study will run from mid-February through May. Small groups typically meet on a weekly basis, but are empowered to determine their own cadence.

If you are a We Here member and would like to join us, please use the participation form provided in our announcement. If you are a BIPOC library worker or student who is not a member of We Here, please reach out to us at communitystudying@gmail.com

Readings

We will primarily be focusing on articles and other shorter works, but we will read the above texts mostly in full. We will also be enjoying a few movies throughout the study.

We’ll be back

Community Study took a much needed break during 2024. We’ll be back soon for more studies. Folks who are part of our private spaces will be updated there, and everyone else can hear about Community Study through the We Here newsletter.
